Family Fun
Greece is a traditional family-oriented society where children are the center of household attention. That makes Greece is a wise choice for your family’s vacation. At home everybody tends to be running in different directions, but Greeks have a “go slow” approach to life. Adapting to this tempo, your family will share quality time together in a land with spectacular scenery, a charming culture and glorious historical riches.
Activities
On an Aegea created trip your family is given an opportunity to select from an array of activities, many of which satisfy all age groups. For active youngsters there are bike tours, hiking and soft sea sports like snorkeling and swimming. For curious teen-agers Greece offers legendary venues and museums to learn about Greek mythology, the Trojan War and the origins of democracy on site instead of in the confines of a classroom.
What youngster, any age, wouldn’t want to climb the 999 steps to the 17th century Palamidi Venetian fortress in elegant Nafplio? Or descend into a cave so large it holds several hundred people on the Cycladic island of Antiparos? Or run around the ancient stadium in Olympia like a super athlete? Or swim in thermal hot springs flowing into the cool Aegean Sea on the Dodecanese island of Kos? On and on -- lots of kid-oriented activities that Mom and Dad can relish too!
Safety
Greece provides a safe environment for children. Outside major cities, crime is practically non-existent. If you get lost walking or driving you never have to worry about making a wrong turn into the wrong part of town – there is no such thing as a dangerous neighborhood in Greece like you’d find in the other European countries.
Child Friendly
Many accommodations throughout Greece offer child-care services, including the Athens Airport which has an attended area for children to pre-occupy themselves while parents arrange travel procedures.
Greek families dine out together, parents, grandma, children, everybody, and at all hours. It’s not unusual to see a large family sitting down for dinner at 11:00 pm. Likewise your children will be accepted in any Greek eating establishment. In fact, just about any place in Greece provides a welcome atmosphere for children.
Eating
Even the fussiest young eater invariably adopts a favorite local specialty and ends up ordering it over and over to test all its variations. Souvlaki (chicken, beef or pork) is usually a winner, but there’s plenty of pasta and pizza, too. Kids with more adventurous palates swoon over kalamari (which sounds better in Greek than squid does in English), eating it grilled, sautéed, breaded, fried and stuffed.
All to say that food choices are diverse in Greece and your children will be surprised to find themselves enjoying newly acquired flavors. Apart from the delicious healthy cuisine, parents will appreciate the abundance of fine Greek wines to choose from to enhance every meal.
